Why do people study for a CIM qualification?
Froma CIM research campaign conducted from 26 April 2010 to 22 May 2010 last year amongst a sample of 7,431 Studying Members who had completed a CIM or CAM qualification, the following emerged:

·The main reason for taking a CIM or CAM marketing qualification was to improve career prospects with 63% of respondents choosing this option. This is a 26% increase over the 2009 results
·Students do not study for a CIM qualification with the primary objective of increasing salary
·Students who studied for the Introductory Certificate and Professional Certificate were doing so to gain credibility at work more than students who studied at higher levels who took their CIM qualification primarily to improve their career prospects
·Part-time study remains the most popular method of studying for a CIM qualification. Half of all students who responded studied in this way
·MBA’s and Masters degrees were the most frequently named alternatives to CIM qualifications
·Just over half (52%) of all CIM students surveyed were sponsored by their employer to complete their qualification - a small increase in the amount of students sponsored compared with 2009 (43%) and 2008 (44%)

Study Centre experience
·The cost of tuition fees is not the No.1 deciding factor when choosing a study centre.
·Students rate quality of tutors as the most important factor followed by reputation of the study centre
·Overall, 75% of students were satisfied with their study centre
·12.4% of students were either dissatisfied or very dissatisfied with their study centre. This appears to be largely due to poor experience with a tutor and lack of consistent teaching across classes. A few comments also related to the apparent lack of engagement between the study centre and CIM
·17.2% of UK students were dissatisfied with their study centre compared with 5.9% of international students

Overall student satisfaction
·Students on higher levels of CIM qualifications were more satisfied that their course had offered value for money if they were paying the fees themselves
·Overall, 75% of students thought their course had offered value for money with 34% strongly agreeing to this statement
·94% of respondents would recommend studying for a CIM qualification to someone else
·97% of students feel more confident about their marketing ability having completed their qualification. A dramatic increase on 2007’s figure of 62% which could be taken as a credit to the new qualifications launched in 2008 and 2009
·95% of students feel they are more knowledgeable about marketing now they have achieved their qualification
·83% feel their CIM qualification has motivated them in their marketing careers. This compares favourably with 2007’s figure of 56%
·85% believe their CIM qualification will improve their employment prospects
·Overall, 61% of our students hadn’t ruled out the option of continuing to study with CIM

Sheffield-based marketing school, Robert Chiswick Training and Development, is celebrating for the 2nd time in 3 years as one of its students has won the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) student of the year award for Yorkshire.

Student Clare Baker achieved her CIM Professional Certificate in Marketing qualification and managed to secure the coveted prize above other nominees from many other colleges and qualifications providers throughout the county.

Clare, a development and marketing manager for Sheffield School Food Trust’s ‘Let’s Get Cooking’ programme, received her award at Leeds Metropolitan University last week and revealed: ‘ I was very flattered to be nominated and it came as a great surprise! I really valued the support and teaching environment offered by Robert Chiswick Training and Development.  I found the learning really useful and applicable to my current work projects and I am a more confident marketer as a result of studying for this qualification which has ultimately led to me winning this award.’

Robert Chiswick commented, “Clare worked extremely hard for her qualification and we believe that, in addition to her obvious ability, her commitment and positive attitude helped her to receive our nomination.
We’re delighted for her and for all the other students whose pass rates have once again been excellent this year.”

But our job is made easier by our students commitment to their future and, by applying the principles of what they are learning to their organisations, both the students and their employers reap the immediate benefits. Successful students add value to their employers and their career prospects".

Many of Robert's past students believe that, in addition to the tuition they received, they owe their success to the personal support they received throughout their studies - just visit the testimonials page on their website at  www.rctraining.org for further reasons for their triumphs!
